Compare the number of UK car bombs with bike bombs and it's obvious it's not the real reason.
I've tried to clarify, but it still falls below the amount of cycle parking they require other developers to provide now. How about yours?Depends on the council...
Your problem there was using the word 'secure' the Uni at the bottom of the hill (if you were parking a car 3m away I'm guessing you were near the observatory) has loads* of cycle parking, one of which I had a bike stolen from only 2 years ago :-) Had some lovely CCTV footage of it being ridden off.The man could not tell me of any secure place to lock a bicycle nearby.
The 2 stands at the top gates and the 3 stands near the Observatory weren't there at the time. They're a fairly recent addition. The 200 parking spaces have not been affected. (The only ones were a set of wheel benders by the tennis courts. And you can't cycle to them.)Your problem there was using the word 'secure' the Uni at the bottom of the hill (if you were parking a car 3m away I'm guessing you were near the observatory) has loads* of cycle parking, one of which I had a bike stolen from only 2 years ago :-) Had some lovely CCTV footage of it being ridden off.
*In the order of 60 hoops, plus some mobile wheel bender things and the mythical 'secure cage parking' with the waiting list longer than the Thames.
Indeed. I can't remember the last time I left my bike locked up in public since. Fortunately for work I have access to a restricted area, it's down a flight of stairs (and even in there the bike is secured with an Abus Chain and HD Oxford U Lock) I'm not 'supposed' to put it there (I've been told 'no bikes inside the buildings' by the guy carrying his Brompton to his desk) but I've been leaving it there for the best part of 2 years now and if called on it retort that if they can supply cycle parking that is secure, I'll use it. We still regularly get bikes stolen from site (although no idea what security they are using). We are about to be relocated to Eltham, where I think my bike will have to start chancing it outdoors. I'm already pondering which locks to buy (the ones I'm currently using won't hack it as far as I'm concerned.)The 2 stands at the top gates and the 3 stands near the Observatory weren't there at the time. It's a horrible feeling having your bike nicked and I'm not sure being able to watch it happening on CCTV without being able to do anything about it helps an awful lot.
