.......and leave Commuting for commuting, not racing, sorry, scalping ?

Stephenite said:No, we shouldn't. It encourages bad cycling.
edit/:- I'd be glad to race you tho', dude, (to Siggerud and back)but cycling on public highways should be taken seriously.

eldudino said:I don't see how scalping is dangerous. If I ever pass anyone (or scalp them if you will), I'm doing the same speed that I always ride, no more, no less. Yes, sometimes I might try a bit harder but I do that regardless of whether someone's there or not at times. As long as the scalp is done safely, what's the problem? If someone's going slower than you in the car, you don't wait behind them, you overtake. It's just that on the bike it's much more satisfying because you're doing it under your own steam rather than using fossil fuels to demonstrate your physical prowess!
Origamist said:Overtaking is one thing, but quite a few people are very competitive and think "game-on" when they get passed. They jump on your wheel because they've seen Lance do it on TV, overtake with a puce faces and rictus grins, take risks when filtering (my shoulders are 40", that gap is 36", I'll shape shift like on Star Trek and get through), look behind feverishly every 4 secs to see if they've dropped you (shoulders rocking, head lolling, tongue wagging etc ) and then, if all else fails, they start jumping red lights to stay head...

I don't get any of this so my scalping experience must be pretty different from yours and it's a safe part of my commute and happens probably once a week due to the lack of cyclists that I see!
Just because some people have bad experiences with it doesn't mean it should be excluded from the commuting section.
