Inspired the the compulsive liars thread, can you tell a lie and carry it off ?

I can't do it, even if I try hard. In fact I can't remember the last time I tried to lie, but maybe that's because I know I can't.

My wife on the other hand can come out with a lie at the drop of a hat. She once went into work on a Fri knowing there was a 6 nations rugby match on the TV on Sat that she wanted to watch.

She spent the afternoon telling everyone how ill she was untiil they suggested she go home for the day, but she stayed on. She went in on Sat morning, and was asked how she was feeling. She said not too good but she'd stay and see how things went. At about 12 o'clock she declared she was feeling awful and had to leave. She then got home in time for the build up and kick off !

She also maintains to this day (some 24 years later) that she had her fingers crossed when she promised to love, honour and OBEY me !

I'm rubbish at it and pretty good at spotting others telling porkies. I absolutely HATE it when I see someone lying or if I find out later that someone has lied to me.

I'm an absolutely crap liar and I consciously don't do it. If you do tell lies then you're only lying to yourself at the end of the day.

Having said that I think everyone probably tells small white lies or massages the truth without even realising it, on an almost daily basis...not whoppers but things which make unpleasant truths a little more bearable.

I can't lie to people I know, apparently the signs are easy to spot!

But seem to have a knack for it to people that I don't know, not a very useful trait as I can't abide Liars and don't do it.

Easy.

Make up something that is different from the truth.
Go into meditation and mentally relive what you have made up.
Truth is forgotten and falsehood is remembered forever.

Now I can't remember what are truthful memories and what is 'made up'... ;)

I can lie, straight faced as you like, but i only tell porkies at work if circumstances dictate.
I developed the 'art' in my last job...endless requests and orders all day, it really was a job to keep up with it all.
So if an engineer came and asked if something had arrived (something i should have ordered but forgot to)..i'd say 'i'll chase it up' or give them a later arrival date, then rush off and order the bits.
Only one person sussed it..and i got away with that one. The big manager asked where such and such was (something i'd forgot to get)..i said 'i'll give them a ring and see when it was despatched'.
He looked at me and said..'ring them from that phone there'
;) 'i can't, i havnt got thier number on me'

He knew i was bullsh1tting...but he was the only one.

Ultimately there's two kinds of lying..the malicious sort which i'd never indulge in, and the harmless 'get you out of jail' sort.

Wow - method lying!

I am economical with the truth to myself, but in the most diplomatic way possible lest I find out.
