Can you lie ?

I can't even lie by saying nothing - my face gives away whatever I'm thinking, apparently. (Gets really tough when you're around someone who's being nice to you but who makes your skin crawl.)

I very very rarely lie. Even then it would be teensy weensy one, of no real importance.

Seriously tho' if I suspect someone is telling Big Lies, and yes, I can nearly always tell, then they are deep Sh1t.

But craftily, I do not usually let on to them that I know they are lying. It is very "interesting" how many more lies people think they can tell. I think I have a very good memory, but people who tell lies seem to have very short memories. Also they often over-elaborate the excuses, and then cannot remember all those details when they repeat the excuse.

I've managed to maintain a lie for over five years. My son is convinced that I've bequeathed my vinyl collection to a colleague and is devastated. Thing is my colleague and the rest of my family are in on it and have assisted with its maintenance.

Inspired the the compulsive liars thread, can you tell a lie and carry it off ?

I can't do it, even if I try hard. In fact I can't remember the last time I tried to lie, but maybe that's because I know I can't.

My wife on the other hand can come out with a lie at the drop of a hat. She once went into work on a Fri knowing there was a 6 nations rugby match on the TV on Sat that she wanted to watch.

She spent the afternoon telling everyone how ill she was untiil they suggested she go home for the day, but she stayed on. She went in on Sat morning, and was asked how she was feeling. She said not too good but she'd stay and see how things went. At about 12 o'clock she declared she was feeling awful and had to leave. She then got home in time for the build up and kick off !

She also maintains to this day (some 24 years later) that she had her fingers crossed when she promised to love, honour and OBEY me !

Are you proud of your wife for being able to lie??? Just curious as if that was me I'd never trust mine.

I find the whole thing of people lying really disheartening. I've been with people who have told lies for the sake of it or to save their own necks and think " wow they were pretty convincing there" and thus never trust them again ever.

Can't stand it. maybe the way we were brought up but as my mum always said "liars always get found out"

Having Aspergers means that I don't generally lie. I may be economical with the truth at times but if asked a direct question I either refuse to answer or I tell the absolute truth.

However, I can act very well and if given a 'bluff' to carry off I can do so very convincingly if I have a script to work to.
