Open wire telephone lines.
I went on the last ever course that BT ran for installation and maintenance of open wire systems in 1973. Scary stuff when you were tensioning the wire and one broke!
Last one I worked on was up an old 60 foot pole in Lapworth, overlooking the canal; about a 70 foot drop to the towpath!

What about 12" hard drivers. 1MB fixed plus 1MB removable. The 6 platter 12" removable hard drives were a whopping 32MB I seem to recall

I don't think many people of any generation would recognize those industrial fridge-sized storage units. Were they the ones that could be made to walk by artful stop-starting of the disk rotation?
