Proper, yellow, bicycle capes. Can't remember the last time I saw a cyclist wearing one in the rain.

I got one, but it ain't yellow. Good for really heavy rain, feet and hands stay dry.
They're still pretty popular among some in Manchester - mostly old east asian fellows, from what I see. A few flimsy looking transparent plastic ones, but a few of the sou'wester types you describe.
Quite. It was a small dig at creeping Americanisms invading our cussing. (Language is constantly evolving you say? Harumph.)
You tell them Tim, buddy. Time for them to get with the program.

I would happily do so if I had someone to play them with!
Me too! I have a fair few in the cupboard but never get to use them.

You should google to see if there are any games nights in your area. There are two at pubs within walking distance of my London home, and London On Board fills a pub basement/party room every night of the week and all day over the weekends, with a waiting list of people who can't get in.

Check out new games, too. They mostly come out of Germany, but there are game writers all over the world. Look out for "Spiel des Jahres" award, that's a reliable indicator. A couple of recent favourites are King of Tokyo (where players are kaiju - off brand Godzillas, competing to dominate Tokyo) and Hanabi (a cooperative where you all work together towards a common goal).

Playing dominoes.
We have some lively 'does' evenings when company comes to stay.
My Grandad & Dad used to play dominoes with my sister and I when we were nippers - I can't remember the rules now though. Card games too, Mrs M and I have a never ending game of Rummy that we pick up on holidays.
