Can you replace QR skewers with wingnut skewers?

Just got a spare back wheel with qr skewers for turbo trainer. However, it appears the fitting for the turbo trainer is for a nutted skewer as there is no room for the handle of the quick release skewer to fit. Would my best option be to replace the qr skewer of the wheel with a nutted skewer and is that possible to do?

I suspect you just have the wrong type of qr skewer, like the one in pic below (which while very common is not useable in most turbos), when you need something like this instead.
