Being able to guess an emotion from a photo is not the same as being empathetic.
I can tell if someone is happy, sad, mad, but I'm not at all empathetic.
Sympathy I can do but I'm a bit " if I can do it why can't you?!" Apparently it's a bad thing. Meh

Interesting question. Over the last few years various academics involved in nursing education have suggested that some students can be taught empathy. Personally, I think that they shouldn't be student nurses if they need teaching empathy! Can it be taught? To my mind, absolutely not. You can teach someone how to appear to have empathy but that is a totally different thing.
