I don't know if signs would work so well. In the States, sometimes these signs are seen as "another aspect of government intrusion on our hard won freedoms just so liberal cyclists can ride their toys in my way of living my much more important life" sort of thing. People should really examine and unpack this sort of philosophy. For example, many of my relatives who cycle have political belief slightly to the right of Genghis Khan, and believe everything Mr Merdehock offers them on Fox News is the unadulterated word of the Almighty.

Don't lose sight of the fact that this specific sign referred to a short section of the road that had been narrowed for construction reasons - it wasn't a general instruction for all roads.

So, fast cyclists should get space and force safe overtakes, slow cyclists should stay in the gutter and encourage drivers to push through.
