Sodding Road Repairs

If I do come to a closure, I proceed and try my luck and always asking workmen politely if they are about.

To be honest if it was a dual lane road, or one that didn't rise vertically, I would have done that too, but there are places on that road that could easily be impassable without backtracking, climbing over gates and trudging across the moors.
Getting to the top and realising I had to turn round would have destroyed my soul 😆

We seem to get a fair number of "Pop-up Reservoirs" where Anglia Water dig a hole in the middle of the road, fill it with water, barrier it off and then disappear for a couple of weeks.

Today I had an experience that's only happened once before in all the 50 years I've cycled - a road closure and I couldn't get through! No great problem and I didn't make an issue of it with any of the workers present......... But I seem to recall from these forums that it's not legal to close a road to pedestrians. I passed the first road closed sign about 1 mile before the actual closure (no mention of where, or if pedestrians were also included) , and have done for about 5 weeks previously and been easily able to get through (and during that time no work occurring). Today there was a redimix lorry, and waist-high piles of earth across the road - the only way round for a pedestrian would be to wade through equally high stinging nettles! Or do the detour through the parkland of Blickling Hall, an entrance was nearby and it was a nice ride, but on foot would have easily taken an hour!

With the appropriate TTROs it is legal to close any road or path to any traffic. They must maintain pedestrian access to premises on the closed stretch in some way, but can stop through pedestrian traffic, and if there are no premises, can stop all pedestrian traffic.
