That would be brilliant, @ColinJ! Yesterday afternoon I also spoke to two Canal & Rivers Trust employees. They were working on lock 18 in Tod, and said because the spillways were listed, nothing could be done to improve them. They said I should walk across the plank and wheel the bike through the water. That seems like a good way for me to fall, so I'm hoping your reps are correct! In the meantime, I'm looking for some cheap water sandals with non-slip soles...

I don’t think there’s any horse boating still going on other than tourist operations going up and down the same two miles of canal all day. Sue Day used to travel long distance with her horse but I don’t believe she still does.
Just read in the latest Waterways World that Sue died in October.

Puzzle game procrastinator!
He confirmed that discussions are ongoing about improving access over those weirs. I asked how long the discussions and the subsequent work will take... years? He assured me that a decision should have been made by about the end of this year, and the work itself should not take long for the engineering team to carry out. So... if that is true, then the problem should have been solved by next summer. I will report back on progress!
2 years have passed and there are no changes yet, but apparently there is an agreed budget and it is going to happen - BBC article HERE.
