There's someone with one if you search, can't remember who off the top of my head! Which bike is it to replace? The 29er?

Yup, I got one a few weeks ago. First road bike and I like it, mentioned in the thread helston linked that I am wondering about a wheel upgrade as at times it feels a bit sluggish getting going. Not been on it loads but done a few ~15mile rides and gotten used to it. Based on what I read on the forums, the frames seem on the large side. I'm 6'1" got a 56 and either I'm still getting used to it (having ridden much more upright hybrid for the last few years) or the hoods are still a bit of a stretch.

Need to investigate mudguards more, the LBS I got it from recommended and sold me some crud Roadracer 2s due to clearance. Can't say I'm impressed though and as a disc bike the forks are thicker and O-rings for front guard were very tight and pinged off within a few days. Bike has mount points though so I want to get some proper fixed ones. Not been a high priority with the recent weather!

The discs themselves have needed some tweaking and when I use it for work it gets put in the back of the car with the front wheel taken off, which has then required more regular tweaking of the brakes. Seems fine when I leave the front wheel on though. They aren't among the higher rated mechanical discs but the power seems fine to me if you get them setup right, and I doubt I even have them setup quite right yet.

I'm not in terrible shape but not great either and 20 years of playing cricket as an opening bowler have taken it's toll on my back which has been painful at times on the bike, but I reckon that's more me than the bike and would even get that on the hybrid after a while.

On roads its great, my hybrid is alloy fork and the Synapse is so much more comfortable over the bumps. Having said it's a little sluggish getting going sometimes, when it is moving it's lovely, I end up having to restrict myself because it rewards me putting in more effort, but then of course I run out of steam!
It copes with the local canal path, but I wouldn't say it's fun on it, so I've been sticking to the roads.

As a road bike I really like it, it may be a big brand but I don't feel like I see many Cannondale's around here to be honest.

@vickster

29er for canals, towpaths, forestry etc etc as our canal hear in southwales isnt allowed to be fully tarmaced or gravelled.

The synapse will be for winter training/commuting duties

Which then leaves 3

Tarmac is for crits/fast club rides
Ti is for cruising comfort over long distance
Shiv is for TTs

I've owned my Synapse since March time and I'd just like to point out that people have mentioned the wheels as being one of the cheap bits. I'd concur, it could be that I'm on the heavier end of the scale (95kg or thereabouts) and so they aren't designed for me, but the wheels (which are now on my Sirrus and still being used) have suffered a number of spoke breaks over their life time (on the back) and the hub has just got incredibly noisy, in a bad way, on the front. I'm very happy I replaced them on the bike and would suggest it's at the top of your list if you are getting one. I can't see the Maddox 3.0's that came with it still being in use on anything in our 'stable' by the time they are a year old.

I already purchased new handbuilt wheels at the same time of buying the bike. I'm 105kgs and always change wheels straight away, its just a given that wheels supplies with bikes are made from cheese string

I'm a Cannon Synapse AL105 Discer too and also upgraded the garbage heavy wheels. I had guards fitted when I bought it last December but have since taken them off, as the bike looks a lot better without. Guards can be a pain because they don't fir unless you bend bits and pieces, and then every so often the wheel rubs or something else makes a noise. I love the bike I just wish I could do it justice as I still haven't reached 1,000 miles yet. I'm still 300 miles off and only a few weeks before the year's up.

Poppy cock @jowwy

(normally agree with most of your posts) & when I don't they are entertaining at least.

I will explain.

My 09/10 Giant Defy came with stock Mavic CXP 22's on Giant hubs, they were very solid, not light, not fast, but solid & reliable, never made a sound but weighed about the same as a ferry full of Assylum seekers.

My Sintesi Z2 came with stock Ritchey WCS Zeta's, I never used them, but my mate (who I sold them to new) has had 1000's of miles & many sportives on them without a hitch.

My +1 Cube Peloton (collecting possibly next week) comes with stock Mavic Aksium S & although I might hardly use them, are said to be quite bullet proof, if not particularly light or fast.

I nearly always change my wheels to something lighter/faster but just out of vanity really (as well as the performance gains/weight loss).)

I wouldn't argue with you or anyone over hand built wheels though as there are so many who swear by them.

Happy Christmas (new bike time) jowwy, 'tis always such a nice feeling.

Now, about that Shiv...
