so... its very close to my 30th birthday so a new treat for me.... because of my size i've narrowed down my options to two bikes. they have near identical geometry apart from the canyon has a slightly longer seat tube

my options are a cannondale carbon from 2008 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cannondale-Synapse-Carbon-63cm-xxl-road-frame-and-fork-/261394459203

or

canyon roadlite 6.0 https://www.canyon.com/_en/roadbikes/bike.html?b=3191

anyone got a synapse from 08/09 and can tell me what its like?

I bought a second hand Synapse from that year at the end of summer. Only put about 300km on it before I went back to uni and took my aluminiium "winter" bike with me but general impressions were good. It's a very comfortable bike, even more so if you build it up with nice parts. Also, it handles well and is generally easy to ride. Mine is build up with 105, Ultegra wheels and stock Cannondale finishing kit.

IMO Cannondales are kind of overpriced (But also hold their value quite well second hand) so depending on how much that frameset goes for, the build might cost as much as that new Canyon. Also, despite being carbon I don't think they are particularly light (my Synapse about the same weight as my aluminium CAAD5)
