Offers abound on these at the moment... Anyone know the weight of it, as none of the sellers seem to wish to divulge?

i dont think its worth sweating the weight at this price point, most allloy bikes with claris will be about the same, at this price buy based on spec/looks rather than weight.

Well, I shall, and have advised him on other machines at that price point... But weight is important to him, evidently.

I told him if he wants a light bike, get a Trek Emonda.

If he wants a lighter bike, the price goes up. But as Adam says, weight is not really a worthwhile consideration at that price point...
