Hi, I know some of you bods have a Synapse.

I'm looking for a winter bike for the OH and have put down a deposit (refundable) on a Synapse womens. Some of the blurb suggests that there is space for mudguards and it appears to have mudguard bosses.

Does this ring true? I want to fit proper mudguards not Crud Roadracer crap.

Hi,
I have a Synapse and can recommend the SKS Raceblade long mudguards, approx £30.
They are easy to install and easy to remove for summer riding as the bayonet type fittings stay on the bike and you just clip the guards on & off. Never had a problem with them, they don't rattle and you can get them in black or silver. Although the blurb says they are suitable for 23mm tyres, I run them on 25mm and there is loads of clearance. If you do get them just remember to remove the springs on your quick release skewers as they are not required when the bayonet fittings are in place, the instructions are in picture form not written and I had to double check that this was correct with the good folk on this forum and it was confirmed.

I am not positive but I think it depends on which model Synapse you get. I know on some previous men's they don't have the bosses. It may have something to do with frame material as well. I would take a close look at the particular bike she is getting.

You don't need mudguard bosses for these, the bayonets slide onto the qr skewers and fit behind the brake bosses however the clearance may be different with different models. I have the 2013 synapse alloy frame and they fit fine with plenty of clearance on 25mm tyres

Thanks, nut I don't want raceblade longs. They are just another compromise and if the OH has a puncture, just another thing to go wrong.

Thanks for taking the trouble to dig out the photos.

The womens version has caliper brakes.
