Buying replacement pedal reflectors the shop man quickly found the reflectors, but I couldn't help myself from commenting on the time he was taking to rummage in the bottom of the drawer for the fixing nuts and washers. Most of my customers buy complete pedals he told me:biggrin:, I haven't been back to that shop since.

surely you specified two things, Drop bar and Commuter?

Google Commuter bikes and you come up with eg http://www.cyclesurgery.com/commuting/bikes/fcp-category/home , where there aint no drop bar bikes. or http://www.wiggle.co.uk/commuter-urban-bikes/

Now, if you had asked for a robust drop bar bike I can use for commuting.....
I thought you had me there, but it wasn't wiggle or cycle surgery.

It was pearsons (and decathlon, but to be fairer to them, they actually didn't have any tribans in stock in my size)

This is what Pearsons has under commuter bikes.

I also know which one @Ganymede would go for...

I'm at Evans in Shaftesbury Avenue in London.

Me (holding out mini-pump): Can you show me the trick of changing this over, not sure how it works
Young man: Yes like this...... It's not the best one you can get, you know
Me: I know, but I never get (slaps hand over mouth)
Him: What?
Me: Well (whispers) I never get punctures (gestures to P*ncture fairy etc, he looks a bit bewildered)
Him: Never?
Me: Seriously, I've only ever mended one puncture in my whole life
Him: Do you get other people to mend them for you?
Me: WHAT THE HOLY HECKINS YOU IMPUDENT SEXIST LITTLE SHOYTE (I say all this with my eyebrows of course). Cuh.

A tale I've told before:

A LBS with a good reputation tried to pass off a faulty tyre (section of bead missing) with the explanation that 700 wheels are notorious for being different sizes and not all 700 tyres can fit them.

They had put the bike together and checked it as brand new and got it straight back to rectify the collection ride huge blowout I suffered within minutes of taking it, they had it back and missed the opportunity again - they had that tyre already half off from the blowout, off fully and added a second layer of rim tape to make their so called *mismatched* 700c tyre and rim work together.
Dubious but thinking they're a longstanding good rep LBS I took it out for another test, had the same tube destroying big blowout, I walked the bike home, checked it myself and instantly saw the manufacturer fault of the tyre bead. Quick email & photo to Schwalbe & a new tyre arrived by return post.

Evwm with the tyre, the LBS wouldn't accept that they had missed an obvious fault twice and tried to blame the blowouts for seemingly by magic making 6 inches of rim bead disappear without a single rip or tear in the rubber for it to have got out of.

Never been back to them since, and the new tyre did me thousands of miles without a problem.

I suppose it's possible that a poor lady buyer might not recognise normal bike sounds when she heard them....
Because she's... "poor"...?
