Canyon choice....2015

Hello,

Looking to upgrade from my 2013 giant defy 1....mate has just got a canyon ultimate cf sl frame set and built a nice bike very impressed with canyon

So my choice I think is the;

Endurace cf 9.0 ultegra £1699 dt swiss r23
Ultimate cf sl 9.0 ultergra £1999 mavic ksyrium 2015

The 2014 ultimate cf sl isn't available in my size and the 2015 version seems to be slightly different gearing, different bars etc but 200g heavier a d £100 more!

Any ideas why this might be?

Ride around 100km a week wether it's a couple of shorter rides or one longer ride....

Any other suggestions? Budget about the 2k mark, any suggestion with discs???

Thanks

My mate has just got the Endurance as is blown away by the bike especially coupled with the 11 speed Ultegra, says it simply glides up the climbs!

Pretty light as well he reckons

I've just upgraded from a Giant Defy to an Endurace 9.0 Ultegra and the difference is amazing, more comfortable, very slick gear changes, much lighter and a damned sight faster for the same amount of effort. It's a bit like driving a Rolls Royce (but unfortunately I've got a 2cv engine).

thanks silver fox,

think i'm pretty set on the endurace particularly as the 2015 ultimate seems more expensive for the same bike!

What do you think of the dt swiss wheels?

Mind if i ask what defy you had, and what size? therefore what size canyon you have gone for?

My defy is medium/large and I think i would be a medium canyon??

My Defy Tiagra was a medium large and i went for a large Canyon. I'm 5'11" with long legs and I reckon the frame is spot on for me. I opted for the shortest stem because I was getting neck ache being too stretched out. (I'd already fitted a short stem to my Defy so I knew what sort of length I wanted).
The Swiss wheels are very light and rigid but harder to change tyres than the Giant wheels and they do make quite a clicking noise when freewheeling (something I can live with). My only very minor gripe is the tyres supplied, first puncture after 11 miles, but I might just have been unlucky, I have now put my old Gatorskins on both wheels. They're slightly heavier but haven't punctured in over 500 miles. I'd rather be a tiny bit slower than spend time mending punctures.
Overall I am absolutely delighted with the Endurace, the saddle and general ride is so smooth, slick and comfortable it makes the Giant Defy look like a penny farthing. I'm glad I got the Defy first so I have a comparison to make. If you are after a slightly more relaxed and comfortable ride but still want to keep up with the racers I don't think you'll be disappointed with the Canyon.
I've booked a Retul bike fit with a sports physio on Saturday just to make sure I'm not putting too much strain on my buggered knee until the NHS can sort out an operation date.

Think you were a bit unlucky with the punture, got the conti's on my defy and done 1200miles this year on them with no issues.

I think i'd be a medium, comparing the frame size against my defy,Current delivery week is 37 so only about two weeks, just got to go ahead an order it, i am curious to see what else canyon have to offer for 2015, but the endurace does seem really good value!

I'll put some pics on this evening. If you're any where near west dorset you're more than welcome to come and have a ride on it.

The older I get, the faster I used to be ...
V. nice indeed  - BUT get rid of the pie plate! It looks SO wrong on a class bike like that. Re. colour - I saw a Canyon in Meteor Grey-Cyan not long ago and that is very classy too
