No, sometimes the renewal notice as NCD proof but not always.

Recently insured my new car. Was quoted £257 on the phone then got the same company's internet quote of £161.

I spoke to them on the phone this morning (Hastings Direct). Apparently they select at random a number of policy holders, and ask them to provide the required information. All fully protected by data protection.
I'm also with Hastings Direct - I went with them when they offered a cheaper fully comp insurance quote (price comparison website) than my renewal quote. They never asked for anything other than evidence of NCD.

It's a bit more complicated than that...
I'd be very hesitent to supply it. Ask them what their data protection policy is, and who will have access to the information.
Given that the company already knows your name, address, date of birth, your criminal convictions, any disabilities you may have, your credit card number - and possibly most of the same information for your partner and your children, worrying about data protection issues around your licence and your V5 is slightly missing the point.

Not everybody has the new V5 yet. My MIL hasn't received hers. and neither has my dad. so if they kick up about wanting to see the new RED one advise them politley that the blue one is still valid

its not a big problem to give them this info anyway
