Witnessed a bizarre car accident today. Car in front on me at T junction didn't see a car driving past on the main road.... elderly man driving an old Rover saloon set off as the car on the main road was passing in front of him. The car which was hit swerved hard to try and avoid the collision and had the nearside door, rear panel and probably the rear bumper damaged by the impact but didn't stop- didn't even slow down- and disappeared off round the bend. The car in front stopped in the middle of the road, driver got out to look at the front of his car, scratched his head, drove to the kerbside and waited a few minutes for the car he hit to return but eventually got fed up and drove away.

We could only assume the driver of the car he hit had no documents or had been drinking and didn't want to see the police. Happened so fast driver in front didn't get number plate... I only saw it briefly.. an old style red Corsa!

I had something similar happen, only I was the one hit, a white van pulled out, straight into the side of my works vehicle, I immediately slowed down and pulled over, but the white van driver had sped away before I could even think of taking down the registration.

I also once was smashed into by some teenagers pulling a dangerous handbrake turn in the road, who then drove away at speed, noted down the numberplate, but the police couldn't even match the numberplate to a vehicle, let alone the one that crashed into me, never was resolved.

Another example of a total lack of observation on the old man's part... I saw him look but how he didn't see the red car approaching... if it had been a bilke or a motorbike....

The ones who wear Tweed caps or hats are the deadliest.

I've had a few very, very near misses with them.

Luckily someone was awake.

In which case he could have been late for work at the chip shop

Unfortunately there is a difference between looking and seeing, and the driver pulling out just demonstrated it.

Even if a driver is looking straight at you and you have lights and relfectives on doesn't always mean that they've actually clocked you either, always be careful
