My MTB cost 1600 euros last summer, which is about £1200, and i've spent probably at a guess between one and two hundred quid on it since then.

my road bike cost £400 about a year ago and i've spent probably about a hundred quid converting it to drops but the drop version would cost the same.

so about £1800 odd in total.
(not counting cosommables)

my van cost me £1500, which is just slightly less than both my bikes put together. But if you count the £600 i spent on my van soon after i got it, being as it did need a new waterpump and exhaust, then my van probably tips the scales at slightly more.

My Fiesta is worth about £850. I know that because my nephew has just offered me that for it. My MTB is newish and worth about £1500. My road bike and my tourer both cost more than £850 new but they are well used. My spare MTB, spare tourer and my town/shopping bike bike would not make £850 for all three if I sold them but they'd cost more than £850 to replace.

simoncc in many-bikes-and-probably-good-ones-at-that shocker! ;)

My first car cost me £800 (Escort Mk2) and my Herety was worth about 3 times the car's value.... at the time...

Current car would have been £19k new, bought 10 months old at £11k, now at 6 years old about £4-£5k. To replace the Herety would probably cost £3k - hand built frame and Dura Ace.

Can I ask what your current car is? To lose 40% of its value in less than a year, but then only 50% of its value over the next five years seems slightly out of balance.
