I see more Carbon bike being used on my commute then any other these days.
As people have said above. It's not the frame you need to worry about (except in a collision) rather then the components.
Component wise as I'm currently saving more than Mrs Viking thinks, I could save a bit each month (say £20-£30) after I've bought the bike to pay for replacement components, she has already suggested I have a bike repair fund....
Yes i have cruds as you saw, i was thinking more of something like this to get the weight off your back and easily removable.

I am tempted by carbon but i cant really see the benefit over my ali boardman unless i spent more then swmbo would let me , which would be "your not having another bike "
hence the tin) as to the cost, to the untrained eye the Defy 4 and composite look very similar (2 wheels, colour and Defy logo thats all she would see)If that is what your heart is saying and your head wins. Your head will be forever telling you when you are riding "what if the heart won and I did get a Carbon...?"My head says the same.... my heart says otherwise

Ah but my head is also thinking what if the missus finds out I've spent £1200 on a bike!!!If that is what your heart is saying and your head wins. Your head will be forever telling you when you are riding "what if the heart won and I did get a Carbon...?"![]()
Yes, but you have too much money.I've been commuting on Carbon for ages with carbon clinchers which have included trips down the canal towpath. It's never been a problem for me.
