Hi there,

I don't know if I am over reacting, but noticed what appears to be surface scratches to the steerer tube under the stem clamp, and wanted to get someone's thoughts.
Does this look normal, or should I be concerned as it's carbon?

Looks completely normal, nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the reply. Heard horror stories about cracked Carbon, but it looks like the surface layers is scratched to me so thought I'd get others thoughts.

That looks like metal to me.
Hi there.
Certainly looks like carbon in the flesh with some feathering on the other side. Is a merida ride 4000 and states full carbon fork?
I admit it looks metal though.
I've read the metal bung helps reinforce where the stem clamps though?

It looks like there is a slight compression in the top photo about 25% down from the top of the steerer on right hand side , if you make the pic bigger it is more noticeable.

Edit- think its just the way the lights hitting it !

Oh okay. I note the edit, and It doesn't feel like any compression and is all smooth except for the two lines running from top to bottom (where the stem clamps). Was just the two scratches ibwas concerned about.
