It's a nice idea, although I'm not sure what they think the average wage of someone living in a rural part of africa is. $20 might not be much to us, but for example, I know an average wage in Cuba is $15 a month. I can't see it being much different throughout many parts of the African continent.
If I bought something costing me 6 weeks wages, I'd expect it to last a whole lot more than a year.

A very good point Mike, It's all relative.

So if buying a bike costing 6 weeks in Cuba is not going to work...

The UK average wage is £26,000 Per Annum. Divide by 52 (Weeks) = 500 * the 6 week's of a cuban's wage = £3000.

For for the average UK wage slave, you'd need to buy a £3k bike to feel the same pain, and you can guarantee it'd be back in the shop if it went all soggy in the rain.
