That is the key question which all the Egon Ronays on here have so far failed to address. I could sort of imagine a pea exploding, but a carrot ...???!!!.

Probably a very singular conjunction of moisture content and sugars or something.

I agree, tinned, jarred or frozen carrots, ugh! How do they get them to be soggy on the outside, and hard in the middle like they are?

Tonight I made salmon in a Thai curry sauce and decided to serve it up with carrots and peas on tagliatelle (no harm in being a bit international). So I emptied a jar of carrots and peas into a bowl and popped them in the microwave and one of the carrots exploded!! Literally exploded. The inside of the microwave looked like the set of a low budget, far eastern vegan horror film. Then it occurred to me that the German word for carrots is Mohren. This is obviously a medaeval typo for moron, therefore you may safely refer to the tapered orange things as morons from now on.

I am now going to console myself with a glass of wine and a murder story on the balcony, which at least reassuringly shows that grapes are not morons.

Well, being as Carrot in Welsh is Moron I do

Indeed you have because the wine in question is a 2006 Detzemer Maximiner Klosterlay Riesling Spatlese from the Mosel and the very mention of B*** N** nearly made me spill some.
Did you mislay a ¨?

(I really should turn off my proofreading gene when I'm just reading CycleChat, sorry!)

I once spent ages in a newsagents/ grocer studying various tins of carrots as if unable to decide which one to go for, while rather inebriated. I thought it all very funny at the time until I woke up next day with a tin of "Happy Shopper " carrots lying next to me.
