I believe the lines have to be between 50mm and 75mm wide - the outer one doesn't look wide enough.
(but I was being Devil's Advocate and playing along with the 'we can't possibly do anything antics' of the police and council)

That is true, although they wernt that bad when I dealt with them a few years ago.

Letter local MP time!Getting anyone to deal with illegally parked vehicles is virtually impossible
We had this one in Portsmouth
Council cannot deal with the double yellow lines, because the vehicle is also on the pavement - this makes it an obstruction and therefore the responsibility of the Police
The Police cannot act because the obstruction is insufficient to significantly impede a pedestrian, therefore it is up to the Council to enforce the yellow lines.
OK say the Council, and then point out that as the vehicle is parked within the zigzag lines of the crossing, this is still an offence that belongs with the Police
The Police then state that the actual restriction is the double yellow lines and they cannot enforce these as that is the Council's responsibility.
Took almost 6 months of both the Council and Police evading the responsibility before and answer was reached.... give up and become devious
Complaining to the licensing authority about the fact that by parking inconsiderately the driver was in breach of the terms of his "Carriage License" - Success
A couple of taxis being given points fro this soon stopped the problem

Greenwich, which is piloting driverless car trials, have come up with an original use of cycle lanes: they've banned bikes from them so that the driverless car can use them. 
(I suspect a fair number of cyclists and pedestrians will be tempted to play chicken with the ''Meridian Shuttle.'')

Bristol's also doing the pilot I think, one of three areas though it's starting in one area of the city and I can't remember if it was Emerson's Green, Patchway or Filton direction first then spreading out across the city.

The double yellow isn't legal as it doesn't end, it breaks for the grate, there needs to be a line T'ing them off back to the kerb

This used to be the case, however the break in the lines for the grate doesn't invalidate the lines. The council should of enforced it!

Does round here  although they generally paint over the grates too

As of 2004 parking was decriminalised, under civil enforcement small breaks in lines can be permitted as long as it can be clearly seen as a double yellow line. Should only differ where police still enforce parking.

Driving on the pavement is an offence. The cars weren't lifted there by Chinook.
