I, too, wonder if I've locked the front door until I go through the motions of my departure 👍

The advent of the mobile phone is great for this. My wife actually does this and confronts me with the pictures: Look! Back door properly locked! etc.

Such a condition is an absolute curse.

The best thing I've done for years is changing the gas hob to an induction, I don't waste ten minutes every night checking and re-checking that the burners are off. And I've saved even more by switching from cigarettes to vapes as I don't have to keep checking the back porch to see if I've left something burning.

When I was in Norway in January 2024 I walked into the chalet we were staying in and wondered why they had an upright fridge in the entrance hall. Upon opening it I found it was full of racks and had a small fan heater too. It was for warming and drying clothes after being outside in temperatures well below zero.
