From the buyer's perspective cash on collection can be advantageous. You get to see the item before actually parting with your money. I walked away from a purchase when it was not as described in the ebay advert.

Beware: Paypal offers good protection for buyers, cash means you have zero protection.

It is notoriously hard to get any money back through PayPal, but the additional dispute process can encourage bad sellers to cough up before it gets that far.

Quite the reverse: it's far too easy. Buyer claims the product was DOA, opens a dispute, Paypal invites seller to prove it works (which of course they can't because it's in the buyer's possession), Paypal refunds the buyer and debits the seller.
