My Roadie compact has SRAM PG-950 11-26, 9 speed.

Any cassettes out there that will go on which are lower ? 11-32 9 speed maybe ??

You can definitely get lower if you switch to mtb cassette, I'm not sure about cage length though, I'd guess you'd need a new one.

MTB cassette and mech.
A road mech won't cope with an MTB cassette.
Doesn't matter how long the cage is, it just won't.

I've a home assembled 12:30 cassette (made from parts of 9 speed 11:32 and 11:34 cassettes which I butchered + a 12T lockring)

Ultegra road mech copes with that ... just - it locks up big time if I forget I'm on big front ring and try to get the 30T sprocket.

You can get a 12-27 as standard, that will fit no problems. Anything with a wider range is going to leave some pretty big ratio gaps though.

Looks like It's gonna need a new rear - £75 plus maybe a new chain - Bit too much £££ and hassle

A PG970 11-34 cassette can be bought for £20 incl p&p. So I guess it depends on what rear mech you have at the moment.
