We use Sainsburys basic stuff. Though quite why the cat insists on taking a crap and stinking out the entire house when there is a catflap and garden to go in is beyond me...

You need to be cleaning the litter every day by lifting the soiled bits out. Cats dont like going in dirty trays and to leave it 5 days even with one cat is way to long. I use Wilkinsons clumping for my cat and there is no smells. I am really astounded that someone would leave it that long.
Its stinking basically because it needs emptying everyday!!!!.

we remove poo's every time and the original type of Pet city litter we used would last a week without any clumping or smells but it has changed and now only goes 2 or 3 days before stinking , changing it is not an issue doing it once a week is just easier and didnt bother the cat .
I suspect thus you'll get good and bad feedback. Trial and error, doubt there's a perfect product

Why's he an indoor cat? FIV positive?

when he came to us from local cat rescue we tried him outdoors and all he did was to go and sit under our car and wouldnt even move when we started it , the re homing people had tried with going out but he wouldnt even go out through an open door and if he did the slightest noise scared him that much he would cower done and shake

regards the cat litter stinking, five days does seem a bit excessive but hve you considered the cat itself might have an issue, strong smelly cat urine could indicate the cat is not drinking enough water (not milk) .

the thought has crossed our minds but his water drinking amount hasnt lessened at all infact we both think it has risen and did wonder if the excess is the reason he is due a vets visit next week and we are going to mention it to them

Drinking more water can be a sign of kidney disease in cats.
Good he's going to the vet to get checked out.
Hope the wee (no pun intended) guy's ok.

We've found Catsan 'clumping' pretty good. When they pee it just clumps up into a ball you can just pick out. The crap is easily disposed of too. I know, it's enough to put you off your breakfast but more here. https://fetch.co.uk/catsan-clumping-cat-litter-5l-52822011?gclid=CKiV2Z6cis0CFfgW0wod8R8FJQ

Our cats seem to change their mind, which isn't really surprising, so I find myself buying different brands every few months. CatSan is probably their preferred brand, or the EuroShopper stuff I can pick up from my local shop.
