I read today that singer Sandi Thom is upset because her pet cat has been shot.

That's terrible. I might hate the little sods, but I couldn't hurt or kill them.

I could. I see them as little more than vermin. I wouldn't kill them because it's illegal but not because I have a problem with it.

Each to their own Mr P. I agree with you but simply couldn't do it, tis all. What's vermin to one is actually someone's pet.

I agree. Killing things isn't easy. I've killed loads of mice and even that is a horrible thing to have to do. Whether or not I could kill a cat face to face I don't know but in principal I'm happy enough with the idea.

It's just that cats are almost unique amongst pets in that their owners have virtually no control over them and take little responsibility. I can understand someone killing one. If you've got kids and have a bad case of cats fouling their play space then I can totally see why someone would feel justified in killing the cats.

I'll probably get howled down over this, but remember a lot of people would happily shoot a dog, and I bet you'd have something to say about that.

Live and let live. If you can't deal with a bit of poo, pave the garden and surround it with barbed wire. Anyway, soil is mostly worm poo anyway.

Yes, and why not. Not eating carnivores is mostly a cultural thing (with some health aspects like avoiding the liver). A chinese student here was telling me about civets, and how they eat them, and I asked what they tasted like and she said after a moment's though "Ah, like dog". Needless to say, this didn't help me much....

Sprinkle some pepper and you will have no more problems with cats.

Assuming I live in a desert with no rain...

I've heard pepper is only any good until the rain washes it away.
