Catford Gyratory bus contraflow to be legal for cyclist use

Good news for A21 Cyclists, TFL will at last allowing cyclists to use the Bus contraflow on Catford Gyratory (albeit on a trial basis).

After further investigation we at Transport for London (TfL) are proposing to change the traffic order so as to allow cyclists to use the contra-flow bus lane within the existing alignment. This shall be on a trial basis. We are currently in consultation with the police, London Buses and officers from The London Borough of Lewisham with regard to this proposed alteration. Given no unforeseen delays, it is hoped this change will be implemented on site in summer 2011. This is also when the gyratory is due to be resurfaced

I've been using it for years and have never been stopped. I'm glad I'll be in the right from now on though.
It makes so much more sense than having to go round three sides of a multi-lane gyratory system.

On those murderous rephased lights at Deal's Gateway, I'm surprised that there hasn't been more of a protest about them. An email - I think it was originally sent to Roger but I saw it copied on Greenwich CC - actually gave away the reason why TfL had made it more dangerous for cyclists - making it safe again would be detrimental to traffic flow. They've actually admitted this in writing. The logic appears to be: right, there's too much motorised traffic so we're going to make it unmanageable for alternative forms of transport. Result? Even more traffic.

Blimey, 3 yrs of effort to confirm [and allow, on a trial basis] what most cyclist do anyway. Not like its harming anyone by doing so is it? Prob should have spent the 3 yrs trying to change something worth changing. Perhaps those 3 yrs should have been used to deal with those dangerous traffic lights.

Umm, those dangerous traffic lights have been in less than a year, not three. Thats with regards to Deals Gateway.

As for Catford we have sent an amount of emails to TfL but as most people know the wheels turn very slowly. Pun not intended.
