Eh?

You are saying it is not an inconvenience - but then go onto to say it is linked to why they don't wait/stop?
of course it is an inconvenience, but why does that mean a cyclist go through them when other vehicle drivers don't.*

*i see all vehicle drivers jumping red light at some points but i see a lot of cyclist who do it regularly.

Clear ped crossings are a moral dilemma!

I know what you mean. Only this morning, 0715 hrs, the dumb ass paper boy cycling on the pavement hit the pedestrian crossing to change. By the time it had turned to red he had cycled across the road onto the opposite pavement. That left myself plus 2 cars going my way and 1 coming towards all stopped like tits waiting for what seems like ages for them to go green again!

Same here...some tithead cyclist today almost collided with me because he assumed I was going to jump a set..........

Because they can and they know that they'll very rarely be caught.

Do think that would change if more people got fined?
and do you think more would stop if the light phase changed on my popular cycle routes so stopping is less?

The only times I RLJ are:

1. On a particularly steep hill with two pedestrian crossings in succession which always seem to turn red just as I reach them even though no one is waiting to cross. It's happened to me so many times at those particular lights that I have concluded it is a conspiracy to rob me of my hard earned momentum and I will RLJ if no one is there.

2. At those junctions where you have to trip a sensor to trigger the lights but there are no cars in sight behind to do it for you. Although in that situation I will normally use the pedestrian crossing instead.

It's the moton must save time mentality and I see lots of it...It's not pedestrian lights of which I see numerous cyclist jumping but any lights...

it annoys me to have to use up brake and rimn to stop and then use up chain and leg to get going again, there's an awful lt of lights between my house and London Bridge, I use to jump lights when was younger, it's safe with any use of sense

I stop for everything now, it almost doesn't bother me anymore

Ultimately no, and this leads onto the other argument - 'Traffic lights are meant for cars not bikes'.
An argument that can only be offered by those who've never read the Highway Code.

Doesn't bother me anymore...I just like trying to encourage good behaviour by the motorists and today's commute has been fine with them but our two wheel unpowered haven't been as good....Still had a nice smile from a cyclon when I let him go at a give way junction as I couldn't see the point of getting in his way as he was shifting...Yes it cost me two seconds but so what.........

That doesn't make it acceptable

Not if they are a zebra.

Pity so many have been degraded into controlled crossings. Disbenefit to the pedestrian, cyclist and about everybody other than cars, vans & lorries. What a surprise!

Oh my, I have found a tin of worms.

I've only gone through a red ped crossing once, I dawdled to a near stop, looked both ways, saw the ped walking off down the pavement, trundled on through.

Driver behind decided to take down his passenger window shout at me whilst trying to negotiate the roundabout at the same time. Which course of actionwas most likely to cause an accident? The mind boggles.

I would never go through in car, be too scared about gaining points or a fine. I don't go through now on bike to help engender more love between road users. Does however feel counterproductive to be sat in a quiet, deserted, single carriageway road being told by a simple logic mechanism that could be programmed by a 12 year old that it's not safe to go.

It seems silly that most on 30mph roads aren't zebra crossings. There's too few around, for a start, for a lot of people to be really aware of them (especially when placed just after a roundabout exit). It's always a bit of a shock when driving in france. Maybe they should just start the yellow blinkers on them earlier, or leave them as yellow blinkers permanently outside of peak hours so they worked as zebras?

Probably because no-one stops at zebra crossings any more?

The much clearer legality of red lights is a benefit to pedestrians!

Whoopee.

Sums it up....

Never said that it was unacceptable.

Not in so many words, but you frequently excuse it and have admitted to doing it yourself, so I think you do think it's acceptable.
