I am not anywhere near a habitual RLJ'er. In fact i have probably RLJ'ed less than the fingers on one hand.

So the first time i've RLJ'ed since ive been back riding for 6 weeks or so. It was a simple traffic lights for pedestrain crossing and no pedestrains around, and i slowed down even.

Two police motorcyclists behind me.

Pulled me over and of course i couldn't really argue about it, even thanked them! Luckily no summons.

There's still quite a high profile police presence along CS7 - I'm assuming that's where this took place. Two choices I guess - either don't RLJ or deploy a lifesaver before you do, if you want to avoid a £30 fine...

Clear ped crossings are a moral dilemma!

It was on kennington road so just coming up to the Superhighway.

Previous set of lights about 6 or so RLJ'ed across the junction. But two wrongs don;'t make a right.

Seems to be a target for POB at the moment. They'd pulled somebody last night by Sicilian Avenue, presumably after he's crossed the High Holborn/Kingsway junction during the ped phase.

To RLJ, or not to RLJ: that is the question, Campbellab. It's an issue that is often discussed on the Moral Maze and even CycleChat's ethics committee tackles the conundrum from time to time (usually every 8 hours or so).

I could (and do) point them in the direction of much more dangerous offences, but no takers.

But you RLJ, you get caught, and, Karlos, you're man enough to take what's coming to you. Sadly, despite the crackdown, I'm seeing more RLJing than ever before (including motorised & cyclists) on CS7. On Monday, I stopped at a red light, while seven cyclists went through and no others stop.

Jumping a red light is just showing up what a failure of a rider/motorist you are. I take great delight in reeling in the offenders & passing them. Especially people like the guy I saw this morning who ploughted through a busy crossing full of pedestrians (including children, some of whom were on bikes). :facepalm:

I always got the impression motorbike cops spend most of the time chasing each other for fun pursuit practice.

To be honest, I don't RLJ....at all. Unless of course my life depended on it, or I felt under threat. Sure at a ped crossing with no-one around, you might look a bit daft stopping, but then, if you are worried about looking daft....your not image conscious are you?

No no no no.

Jumping a red light is a demonstration of how you are a super-skilled elite rider, possessed of abilities far and beyond the average rider.

The same applies to boys racers in souped up hatchbacks and scoobies/mitsus. We all know how great drivers they all are and how the rules don't need apply to them because they are so skilled.
