That google image is over 5 years old!!! A lot of Newcastle town centre and the surrounding areas have changed. The google image was taken well before NCC went bats*** crazy with ASLs and placed them EVERYWHERE. The contour roam is not very good in low light as it is a day time action camera. With that being said you can still clearly make out the ASL in the video.

Grainger street in fact still looks like this. I see what you mean, not an ASL in sight.

Sorry, but the whole point of me posting that was because I CAN'T make out the ASL in the video, and I used the (5 year old) google streetview to back that up. Where is the first STOP line (solid white) where the Police car should have been stopped, if that is the case?
That image you posted can't possibly be Newcastle; the people are wearing coats and sensible stuff to beat the cold, including a lady whose skirt covers not only her thighs but all the way to her ankles. Not a "Toon" top in sight!

Dan is right. There are ASLs everywhere in Newcastle City Centre, and there's definitely one at the location in question, even though it is difficult to see on the video. As someone who cycles in and out of Newcastle everyday, I give this advice: ASLs are not a target.

Sometimes it is safer and better to queue in primary.

Cyclist wasn't sensible in his maneuever, but seriously - those people equating that they are both as bad as each other? Come on. The cyclist did something that wasn't desperately sensible. The policeman performed actions that are dangerously illegal and abused his position of authority to a member of public who he is supposed to be serving. The two aren't remotely comparable.

I didn't see him giving a hand job - did I miss it?

Typical policeman that believes he is the law , think the cyclists undertook just to prove a point .

I was going to take a picture of the ASL about an hour ago, but my phone was out of battery.

whether there is or not an ASL, the police officer is wrong to state the cyclist performed an illegal manouvere by undertaking.

There is NO offence for motorists or cyclists of undertaking.

Indeed if the office would look on the POLICE NATIONAL LEGAL DATABASES (PNLD) it specifically states this.

That for me is the worrying thing, a police officer purporting to deal with someone for breaking a law that does not actually exist

And of course this has never happened before.

The ASL's are staggered, you can see the right hand lane one at 1:35, there is an angled dashed line, then a straight solid line.

The left hand lane ASL is at 1:36, the police vehicle is covering the bicycle marking, but you can make out the dashed angled line, the white solid line, and the different colouring of the box.

To me that junctions markings looks a mess, but there is a solid line there, where the officer driving should have stopped.
