Not sure about the 14th yet, a friend is going to be in Edinburgh that weekend, and there will be a "time slot" for us at some point ...

Hope you can make it T

On the understanding that triple chain sets are permitted and there will tea and medals en-route..............I'm in.

R1 would be my prefered option but happy to tag on to the back of the autobus.

I have dusted down the CC Ecosse lantern rouge; going to try my best to retain possession of it.

LOL, there will be a few contenders for the rouge trophy!

R1 is definitely plan A. If folk want to cut short at Haddington and know their own way back I'm planning to keep on R1, but I'm not going to leave anyone stranded or lost!

I'm going to come to this one, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
Either route option works for me...

Ohh this is right on my doorstep.

But doubt I could do that many miles since I'm new to this.

This a deliberately long and challenging ride; I need to get the training miles in before the 170km Peebles-Dumfries Tour of Britain sportive on 4th Sept.

Most 'proper' CC Ecosse forum rides are shorter and easier than this one, with more of a focus on cake

and refreshments!

I'm sure there'll be one in the near future!

Sounds like a good route for me to bring out my new bike - just completed it yesterday and off out today for first test ride. Got a mate from Edinburgh who might some along too - he's much better on hills than me. I'll be the one who is all show and no go!

Is Redstone Rigg the climb out of Gifford? I went up that into a headwind... I was not a happy bunny.

I don't think I can make this, but I will investigate the diary and talk to him indoors...

It is! I've made 2 attempts of climbing the Rigg in a headwind, had to get off for maybe 20m and walk  each time, just a little after the bend in the road, when the wind hit  ... unfinished business

Excellent - look forward to seeing your new machine. Maybe your pal will let us draft him up the hill

Redstone Rigg - seems to be living up to its reputation!

I must admit on my first attempt I paused to take a photo of a grouse

On my second (or was it third) ascent I was overtaken by my better half, who then sailed up to the top, out of the saddle all the way

, having only done one 30 mile ride prior to it - and no hills! Benefit of several years of running marathons I guess!

I'm thinking we might come too....weather permitting we'll drive through on the saturday night. Again be good practice for the TOT.

I should say the roads around Haddington are getting resurfaced; especially the west road, plus quite a few country roads around East Lothian after that bad winter. I'm not to sure the roads you guy's are going on are getting resurfaced, so just a warning for bumpy roads ahead, but it shouldn't be to bad.

Isn't that bizarre!? I never noticed that until you pointed it out.

There are some lovely new surfaces in places

I've been on nearly all the roads on the route recently - none of them are too bad.

I've deliberately avoided the coast road from Prestonpans to Musselburgh.
It's been a total mess for a looooonnnnnnggg time, and I've often been forced to ride between primary and the centre line along there to avoid the craters; will East Lothian council sort it out please

Sorry but I'll need to be a maybe too as it's the last day of my holidays and the boss won't give me an all-day pass. Looks like it will be a morning out on my lonesome.
