A friend's coming up from London on work and on Wednesday we're meeting for dinner in Manchester (not my neck of the woods). Does anyone know a restaurant which serves reasonably priced (i.e. second mortgage not required) European cuisine in an environment which allows for conversations to be held at normal volumes without the distraction of wide-screen TV, hen parties, etc. preferably at the Victoria station end of town?

Many thanks

We went here recently. Friendly staff, great food and not silly prices.

The printworks has plenty of restaurants in it and it's a few minutes walk from Victoria station.

The central Manchester one is not as good as the Bury one but not far off. It's deli as well. The Greek breakfast is superb. Not sure if they do it all day.

Thank you, one and all for your suggestions, serious or not.
Potsy, I'm sorry to disappoint you but I shall not be paying your kebab stall a visit tonight (or any other night!).
It seems, however, that at some point yesterday my wife took an executive decision and booked a table at a place called the Grill on the Alley.
Don't talk to me about lack of communication! :secret: :cursing:

All Star Lanes, good cocktail bar, and whiskey cabinet. Serves good high end food, including lobster etc if that's your thing.

Few games of bowling if you get bored too.
