Yes, unless you've left it too long and then the new chain will slip on the old cassette and it would need replaced then, you very rarely have to replace the chain rings though.

Unless you wear them out. mine have done maybe 10,000 miles and the middle is defiantly looking worse for wear.

Indeed, Im about to replace my 52t and probably should have earlier, at least I got in the region of 29,000 out of it.

It's worth pointing out that KMC sell their missing links separately and they can be used on any chain (speed specific). I've got KMC links on shimano, SRAM and KMC chains (I think they split more easily than SRAM power links) and carry a spare with me at all times in case a chain snaps.

My chainset is not a particularly high end, and its still good for a good while yet its just you can see the wear, and I think nearly 7,000 miles is not bad for KMZ 8sp chain, the cassette on the whole isn't worn just mainly the 19th cog, which is the one most used, my avg gear" being 63" the cassette has done the same distance.
