As a beginner I thought I’d fit new chain took old one off tried to fit new one binned both ordered new one watched a few videos now can’t remember how many links were on old chain I binned anyone know how many links on a carrera sulcata bike

I'm afraid I don't know the number of links for that bike but I can point you in the direction of this article on the Park Tools website which gives several options for working out the length of chain you need: https://www.parktool.com/blog/repair-help/chain-length-sizing

Get the new 8sp chain (SRAM). Wrap it round the large chainring and the largest sprocket (but not through the rear mech), and to that length add one full link (one inch). Break the chain so it has an 'inner' link at both ends, the length allowing for a quicklink (half inch) to join. If in doubt, go longer not shorter.

Thanks guys chain eventually sorted. Now I’m looking for a rear rack for same bike carrera sulcata Halfords sold me two different ones neither fitted got refunded.
