Chain lube

Does anyone have any experience with Squirt or Fenwick all conditions chain lube? I've been using the muc-off lube since I began cycling but it causes alot of mess to the drive train and I'm looking at these alternatives.

Fenwicks is great. Not had any issues with using it daily on my commuter in all weathers.

Dunno how sensible it is but last time my LBS looked at my bike he told me to start using GT85 and nothing else

starting with a clean degreased chain then just using that on chain and gears

he said the PTFE from the spray is all it needs


any opinions??

EDIT - oh - and he said to be careful to avoid the disc brakes with the spray - he said he has had a few back that need the disc cleaning and sometimes pads replacing!!

Used squirt in the past does keep your chain much cleaner than oil based lubes but does wash off easily if you ride in the rain . Currently using Silca drip on wax much more expensive same properties as squirt in keeping the chain clean but lasts longer even in the rain

I think GT85 is good for cleaning the chain. I'm sure sure I've seen a video of Francis Cade using it.

Pedal swiftly away from your LBS before he gives you any more stupid advice.

That's what I said
he said the PTFE that it leave behind is better than having oil on it which picks up dirt and becomes a problem

Thing I am unsure of is how much PTFE there actually is in it and how much of the chain and gear cogs it would cover once the oil has evaporated or been washed off

Think I'll give the Fenwicks a try. Seems to be well regarded in reviews and it has to be better than muc-off.

I have used Squirt for a long time now. I try to avoid cycling in the rain.

Unfortunately I live in the west coast of Scotland so find it hard to avoid the rain!

I avoid the rain

but the drive chain gets messed up by the after effects - like mud and grit - messes things up far more than the actual rain
and the paths I ride on suffer those after effects for a long time in winter!

Cycle in Glasgow all year round.
Settled on muc off dry, regardless of the weather.
