Is one of you a tree surgeon?

I saw some tree surgeons cutting down a tree outside so went to have a chat. I mentioned that my chainsaw wasn't cutting well despite my sharpening so one of them asked me to bring it out to look at. So I went to get it.

As soon as I took the cover off one of the others said 'Chain's slack!'.;)

Anyway, they sharpened my chain for me and told me how to do it right and that my chain file was the wrong size. Very kind of them.xx(

There has been a lot of generosity recently:
The tree surgeon sharpening my chain.
A tyre fitter at KwikFit fitting a couple of my old tyres to some rims for free even though it took him 20 minutes struggling with a broken electronic valve stem.
A chap in America sending me a free pair of tractor front axle spindles for my electric tractor project.
A chap in Ireland sending me a free vacuum switch for my electric car.
A chap in Brighton giving me a free electric motor from a golf buggy for my electric tractor.
Longer's long term loan of a climbing harness and help with my scaffold tower.
There have been numerous others including free massage and homeopathy.

Perhaps the world is really quite good.

So what nice things have relative strangers done for you recently?

I've found the good folk of Cycle Chat to be a generous bunch on more than one occasion.

When SWMBO rear-ended another car on her way to the shops, my local panelbeater/bodyshop sorted our car out in a couple of hours at no notice, and wouldn't take any money, just a tenner for a scrap bumper.

I gave him £40 anyway, told him to put it to his son's Mini refurb project.

It depends on how you approach people. I quite often receive acts of kindness and I try to reciprocate, even if it's not to the same person. Most often it's my neighbours, which is what neighbours are all about.

Well, as a team we got over £80 in tips this Christmas, plus several boxes of chocolates... We've had dinner and several drinks on the back of that...

Too many instances of free stuff from fellow CC'ers to list really.... You all know who you are...

It's all about personal Karma. I like to do little favours, but don't care if people pay me back, I really believe in the "pay it forward" ethic.

For example I once towed a builder out of a snowbound road. He tried to give me a tenner, but I told him to do a favour for the next person who asks for nothing. Enough people have shown me kindnesses in the past.

Plus one - now't wrong with a good deed, makes you feel good.

One good deed deserves another.

Plenty of nice folk about, and a few arrogant selfish folk. Fortunately, there are more nice folk about, just the minority that spoil things.

Our cook was going to take her car in to a garage to have the heating looked at as it was just blowing cold air. I remembered having a similar Kangoo in the past and solved the problem by simply topping up the coolant.
