after nearly 3000 miles on my specialized hardrock - I feel its time to do a casette and chain change

so i recognise that whats 'on there' isnt the best of quality.

can someone recomend a 8 speed casette and compatible chain please??

I think that any of the Shimano MTB 8 speed cassettes will fit, depends on how much you want to spend, the same is aid for the chain to the chain.

But fit a quick link to the chain, not the rivet link supplied in the box.

For example -

Chain

May I also suggest SRAM PG850 cassettes? I find them a considerable improvement (slicker changes) than the equivalent Shimano.

And KMC chains, as recommended above.
