OK, it's all done. It was pretty easy really, except actually getting the cranks off. Even with the tool it was very stiff, and I ended up having to stand on the handle of the tool to get it to turn.

Fitting the new cranks was easier - I didn't use the tool I just used the hex key to screw them back in which seemed to work OK.

It's now running nice and smooth and almost silent, bar some chain rub on the front mech in certain gears which I need to look at.

The longer cranks are noticeable too - a bit harder work in the same gear, but more leverage.
