Changing Wheels

I have recently aquired a cheap mountian bike that has big chunky tyres etc. Can I change these for a wheel/tyre thats a bit smaller/slimmer like on a hybrid type bike?

Im looking to use this to travel to work every day and so I can keep the Road bike for in good condition for weekends and the better weather.
Has anyone done this type of wheel change? If so how hard is it to do myself? Thanks

Cheaper and easier option would surely be to just change the tyres, as this will have a large impact on your ride in comparison to the cost.
Is there another reason that you want to change the wheels?

Hi there. I assumed I would have had to change the wheels to drop the tyre size. Will I just be able to chanke the tyres and use the same rims?

As above, there should be no need to change the wheels, just the tyres. Schwalbe City Jets in 26x1.5 have a lot of fans as they are quite a fast road tyre or my preference is a touring tyre like Conti TourRides (26x1.75) which is reasonably fast rolling but copes well with muddy roads and light off-roading.
