In all seriousness though, I don't ride in, in the dark. Riding home in the dark is not as bad but once it gets dark both ends of the day I take the train and a Brompton.

Bingo. 2+ hour home commutes become the norm.

Although I only commute within the same town, my rides home are almost random and can take me 5 miles off in the wrong direction. Darkness doesn't bother me, I've got enough lights to counter and often enjoy riding unlit country roads at night with my three headlights burning a path through the darkness.

My rides in are the quickest route however since I don't like getting up in the mornings.
