Why should they be lumbered with carrying for a year. He'd be more of a liability than owt else.
Make him work raising money for the team who's box he pinched. Raise three times as much as he got away with, on the day, replacing what he got away with from his own pocket.

Thing is though, beyond what embarrassment he'll be prepared to shoulder, his 'punishment' will be derisory and nowhere near enough to act as a deterrent. They should lock him a a zoo enclosure with a very lonely and aggressive grizzly bear. That's homosexual.
