Cheap replacement brake blocks

I am getting through two pairs of brake blocks per 6 months. My commute involves a 100m descent in the morning. Could anyone please recommend a cheap, long life pair of brake block with good stopping power. Wiggle are selling some for a fiver - are they any good?
