Two teeth have come off the smallest sprocket so I'm missing my highest gear. I was aware of a hairline fracture before I left. There are a few other parts that will need replacing before the next trip.

Carried on till 10pm and pitched up with a head torch. There has been a spate of hunting accidents of late so I'm staying visible. Best spot yet, had a fire in the rain.

118km to Cherbourg. I've been pushing since Le Mans and I can feel myself grinding to a halt. The night time riding is fun and you can use roads that are busy during the day but today I'm going at a crawl. Scraping my way back.

I disturbed a boar which flung itself into a ditch with a splash and stopped to take a photo of what looked like a beaver. As it slunk away I saw its rat tail. It was 3 times bigger than any rat I've seen

I did wonder about that, kind of looked like a cross between a beaver and a rat! I saw a few more of them next to rivers so they must be Coypu. Today I watched a red squirrel so that's two new animals spotted.

I'm in Cherbourg! Basically I spent all of yesterday cycling till 3am and crashed out here.

I'm happy to have got the bike this far. I've been limited to about 4 gear combinations, all the others feel crunchy. I'm guessing that I've been riding for a while with a tooth gone on the smallest sprocket and didn't notice until the second one snapped off.
It's been a good experience clocking up a few miles in the dark and cold and I've really enjoyed visiting Nantes and Tour. Thanks for all of your encouragement!
