I've just come on to post a reminder about this too, I've been meaning to do it for a few days, but I've been quite busy with work!! I'm still going to be doing this ride if anyone wants to join me - just let me know beforehand.

How did the ride go?

In the end it was blisteringly hot, so I decided that I'd do a shorter local loop instead. It was definitely the better choice, I got through over 3 litres of water on a 50 miler, without riding through the hotter part of the day. I don't mind riding in the heat, but there are very few places to stop and get water on that route, so I chose the more prudent option.

Plenty of opportunities to do it later when the heatwave has diminished

Yes - I kept thinking how gruelling the ride itself would have been, but 4 crowded, unreliable trains too ... nah!
