It's a bit more complicated than that...
To the 30-odd riders going through Hyde Heath to finish one of today's Chiltern 100 rides at about 3pm - I apologise. The opportunity to click the tandem into the big ring and tank it past you at speeds well north of 20mph was too good to miss. If you felt gutted by being passed by a bike set up for touring (mudguards, rack and rackpack), don't be. We were only carrying the remains of lunch, and only had 20-something flat miles in our legs.
