I have a chinese unbranded carbon frame and two years in it is still performing fine, very light and stiff. The failure Chinese frame that people roll out as an example of dodgy Chinese quality was a copy of a Dogma. I bought a pair of cheap Oakley Jawbone copies and they were crap. The lenses are pathetic I have a couple of pairs of Aldi glasses which are 100 times better.
I suppose what I am getting at is, if you are looking to buy fakes then the quality is going to be poor because the vendor knows there will be a market for it, if you are buying something because you want it at a good price point then China is a viable option.

Chinese Lights are OK - run a few for the MTB and I've had a 'look-a-like' copy Oakley Radar' glasses that are really good (they don't say Oakley on them) made by I-bike (take my prescription inserts and no optical distorsion).

Unbranded frames and wheels from the likes of Deng Fu and the other ones (can't remember the names) will be good.

I have bought 4 bottle cages from China @ 98p each delivered ! they are fine, I could have bought the exact same ones from a British supplier for about £5 each, who probably bought them from China.

That's not the point tho is it? They were sold as unbranded and not Dura Ace. Or whatever else.

How much was the frame? Are they still available?

I think it's worth pointing out that China can and does make anything as good as the rest of the world can do, for a price. Hence, if you're buying from somewhere with a decent reputation and you do your homework then chances are you can buy decent quality for less than what you'd pay over here.
My concern with buying something significant from overseas is the issues if it's not up to standard. It's not so much of a bargain then. I know this from personal experience (albeit not cycle related).

I would be put off by the potential for hit and miss, no comeback and all the extra fees for delivery, tax etc

The delivery times and customs fees are a bit of a red herring. I got my frame in 10 days, and the seller declared the value of the shipment as $60 so there were no customs and tax fees.

Basically I got a frame that would work out around 2k for less than 1k. I am very happy with that.
